Born in 1979 in Tbilisi in the family of a French horn player, Honoured Artist of Georgia, Stepan Apostol, Valery started to take piano classes at the age of 6. From his early years he used to attend orchestra rehearsals with his father, which led to the expected result: from the age of 11 he started learning to play the French horn at the Pavliashvili Specialized Music School of Tbilisi.
In 1993 his family moved to Odessa, and Valery entered P. Stoliarsky Music School (cl. of A.A. Magliovanny). In 1997 he received a diploma at the Young Performers Competition in Moscow. The same year he entered A. Nezhdanova Conservatory of Odessa, French horn class of Professor, Honoured Artist of Ukraine, French horn group concertmaster of the National Philharmonic Orchestra of Odessa – Volodymyr Bondarchuk. In 2000 Valery became the laureate of the International Competition in Kishinev. Having graduated from the conservatory in 2002, Valery went on tour with different youth orchestras to the European countries. In 2006 he returned to the orchestra.
When Volodymyr Bondarchuk resigned his post as the concertmaster, the art director – Hobart Earle – invited Valery, who affirmed this decision with a brilliant performance in a competition.
Valery confesses that he is really fond of the French horn solos in the symphonies of Brahms, Tchaikovsky, Rachmaninoff, Maler and Shostakovich. We are looking forward to hearing them in his brilliant performance in the coming years!
