Music Theory

Dr. Ethnomusicologist.Born on October 7, 1966 in Panevėžys (Lithuania).Graduated from Fiddle (1990) and Ethnomusicology (1992) specialities at Lithuanian Academy of Music in Vilnius. Doctor thesis on theme “Fiddle and Folk Fiddling at Lithuanian Ethnic Culture” (1998, Vytautas Magnus University in Kaunas).

Assistant (1992 – 1999), Research Fellow (1999 – 2000), Senior Research Fellow (since 2000), Lecturer (2005 - 2013), Associate Professor (since 2013) at Department of Ethnomusicology, Institute of Musicology, Lithuanian Academy of Music and Theatre. Lecturer at Department of Baltic Studies and Ethnology, Klaipėda University (1991 – 1992). Research Fellow at Vilnius University (2010 – 2012).

Organised and participated at a number of folklore expeditions in Lithuania since 1987.

Research interests: traditional instrumental music from Lithuania and abroad, folk fiddling studies, ethno-cultural education, traditional music making of 1940-1958 deportees and political prisoners.

Scientific activities:1 monograph, 2 scientific studies, over 40 publications in scientific and over 60 publications in methodical editions in Lithuania and abroad, over 10 musical folklore CD and DVD editions, about 100 papers in scientific conferences in Lithuania and abroad. Member of numerous national and international science and art organizations, such as ICTM (International Council for Traditional Music); ESEM (European Seminar in Ethnomusicology), etc. Participant of national and international musical folklore research projects. Active participation at folklore performing groups, international folklore festivals, etc. Head of Educational Board at Lithuanian Ethnic Culture Society (since 2007).
