Conductor

Vag (Vahagn) Papian (conductor) is the graduate of the Moscow Conservatory where he studied with Professor Mikhail Voskresensky.

Papian began his career as a pianist in 1979 after his successful performance at the Lisbon Viana da Mota International Piano competition (the 2nd prize).

In 1982 he entered the Conducting Department of the St. Petersburg Conservatory and studied with Professor Ilia Musin. In 1984 Vah Papian was invited by Valery Gergiev to become an Associate Conductor of the Armenian Philharmonic Orchestra and three years later he became the Artistic Director and Principal Conductor.

Vahagn Papian conducted the English Chamber Orchestra at the Barbican Centre in London, the New Japan Philharmonic, the Russian, Belgrade (Serbia) and Tronheim (Norway) Symphony Orchestras, the New Russian Symphonic Orchestra and the Israel «Sinfonietta Beer Sheva», the Israel Northern Symphony Haifa, the Jerusalem Symphony Orchestra, the Israel Symphony Orchestra «Rishon LeZion» and other famous orchestras.

Since 2006 he is the Art Director of the Ashdod Symphonic Orchestra (Israel), constantly touring the world as a conductor and pianist.
