Ivanka Stoianova is a professor at the Music Department of the University of Paris, Doctor of Art Studies (France). Studied at the Sofia State Conservatory and at P.I. Tchaikovsky Moscow State Conservatory, continued her studies at the universities of Basel, Berlin and Paris (musicology, aesthetics, and philosophy).
The scientific and creative activity of I. Stoianova deals with research in the sphere of history, theory, semiotics and philosophy of music.
She worked at the Institute of Research and Coordination in Acoustics (IRCAM, Centre Georges Pompidou) under the guidance of Pierre Boulez and as an artistic director of the publishing house Ricordi in Paris.
Ivanka Stoianova is the author of more than 200 research works in French, German, Italian, English, Spanish, Japanese, Swedish, Croatian and Bulgarian languages. The best-known books by I. Stoianova are «Gesture-text-music», «Luciano Berio», a series of textbooks «The Analysis of Music Compositions», a collection of articles about the music of the second half of the 20th century «Between the Distinctness and Adventure», «K. Stockhausen» etc.
