Collegium Quartet

Strings

«Collegium» Quartet was established in 2003.

It consists of the laureates and winners of international competitions: Kirill Sharapov – the first violin, Taras Yaropud – the second violin, Vladimir Tkachenko - viola and Yuri Pohoretsky - cello.

All the musicians received education at the Tchaikovsky National Music Academy of Ukraine and postgraduate course at the same institution, except V. Tkachenko, who graduated from the St.Petersburg State Conservatory named after N. Rimsky-Korsakov.

The team has won prestigious international awards: the first Award of International Competition «Klassik auf der Strasse» (under the patronage of pianist and conductor Vladimir Ashkenazy) (Switzerland) (2006), the special prize at the International Competition of string quartets in Bordeaux (France, 2007), the special prize «Premio Fondazione Antonio Stradivari Cremona» at the VIII International Competition «Premio Paolo Borciani» (Italy, 2008).

Quartet «Collegium» is finalist of the 30th International Competition «Premio Vittorio Gui» of Geneva Association ACERM (Florence, Italy, 2006), participants of the International Programme «ProQuartet», scholars of the Programme «Odyssey» (France), scholars of the 32nd and 33rd International Summer Chamber Music Academy in Lower Saxony (Frentsvegen, Germany, 2008-2009) and the International Music Academy in Velkruz (France, 2008).

Concerts and master courses with Fine Arts Quartet (USA), concert at the unique exhibition of the best stringed instruments of Antonio Stradivari, Guarneri del Gesu, Carlo Bergonzi (Cremona, Italy) (2008), solo concerts in Switzerland and France (2009), France and Holland (2010) were held with the participation of the Quartet.

String Quartet «Collegium» is a regular participant of many international festivals: David Oistrakh Festival (Parnu, Estonia), Festival Fontainebleau (France, Fontainebleau), the 4th Movements of Quartet (Italy, Reggio Emilia), «Kyiv Music Fest» and «GogolFest» (Kyiv, Ukraine), Festival Quatuors a Bordeaux (France), Orlando Festival (Netherlands).

Since 2009 the quartet musicians are the founders of the new International Festival «Chamber Art Music» (Kyiv, Ukraine).

From 2010 to 2011 «Collegium» was invited to one of the best quartet academies of Europe - NSKA (Netherlands, Amsterdam) to attend the master class of maestro of the quartet performing Stefan Metz (Orlando Quartet) and Mark Danel (Danel Quartet). In the framework of an academic programme of NSKA, the string quartet «Collegium» takes part in master courses of legendary musicians of the quartet genre: Alban Berg Quartet, Vermeer Quartet, Prazak Quartet, Ysaye Quartet, Orpheus Quartet, Belcea Quartet.

Diesen Interpretationsstil "mit voller Kraft voraus" behielten die Musiker auch in Tschaikowskys Quartett Nr.2 F-Dur op.22 bei. Zu Tschaikowsky haben sie eine spürbare Nähe. In diesem Werk mit seinen rhythmisch markanten, teils folkloristisch geprägten Themen und seinem verdichteten Stimmengewebe steigern sie sich in ein funkensprühendes Spiel wie unter Hochspannung. Nach der Adagio-Introduktion legen sie sich heftig ins Zeug, bohrend und schmerzlich intensiv horchen sie die elegischen Themen und den melodischen Reichtum dieser Musik aus. Aus dem ersten Satz holen sie eine fast schon orchestrale Klangfülle und im etwas geheimnisvoll anmutenden Scherzo fällt auf, wie gut aufeinander abgestimmt die Vier spielen.
